A Special Group Of Players

The players that played in the Premiership winning team that won the 2016/17 NTFL Under 18s Grand Final and the players that missed out on selection for the Grand Final that played during the season are part of a special group of up and coming players in the SDFC. Between them they have played many Grand Finals now with mixed results and hopefully all will return and will develop over the next few seasons into a very good group of players in the seniors ranks and with possibility that a could even become leaders in the Premier League.

Stories in the group start with the Coach Matt himself whom himself is a 2006/07 Mens Premier League Premiership winning player and was co-coach along with brother in-law Andrew Hodges when the Crocs won the last Under 18s Premiership in the 2007/08 season against Nightcliff. Other stories are like Mitchell Pemberton’s who in his first year playing football is a Premiership player, Courtney Key who moved from interstate and has played two season with the Crocs for two Premierships, Izaak Wyatt who has played six seasons of juniors for the Crocs and has played in five Grand Finals, Brandon Rusca who has not lost a Grand Final playing in three Grand Finals and becoming three time Premiership player, Brandon Rudge who has played 97 games for the Crocs and this was his time playing in a grand Final and is a premiership player, Chris Hind who played his 100th game in his fourth Grand Final this season. A few other players played in their fifth Grand Final this season.

A lot of football players will never get to play in a Grand Final so what this group of players has achieved is remarkable. Now within this group of players who played this season are a mixture of players who are at an age now that will end their underage football, players playing their first season of Under 18s football and even a couple who could have played Under 16s this season but wanted to develop and played up in the Under 18s. Wherever these players head in their future they should hold these years as very special.
